Strange and Sad Timing

As my new release, BY HEART AND COMPASS, becomes available this week, my thoughts are with the people and animals in the Gulf, struggling to withstand the environmental tragedy that struck this April. Only a few days after this event, I joined my husband and college roommates on a trip to the Western Caribbean. We had a lovely time taking in the blue sea and pristine beaches off the coast of Mexico. Never for a moment did I understand the implications of what was happening around us.

I saw the ocean for the first time when I was twenty years old. The impact it had on me drove me to read about it, learn and eventually try scuba diving. Now forty, I made my second salt water dive this spring and had a wonderful experience. On that day, I was more concerned about the lionfish species that is invading the Caribbean. I watched the dive master who accompanied us catch several off the reefs. Who would have thought a much worse predator would threaten the sea life that has moved me to write stories centered around our beautiful oceans?

BY HEART AND COMPASS is shipwreck romance adventure about trusting your heart when it matters most. Although it isn't environmentally-themed as was my short novel, TURTLE SOUP, it means just as much to me because it is an opportunity for me to tell stories and most importantly, write about the things I care about.

You can find out more about BY HEART AND COMPASS today at my blog: www.thebalancedwriter.blogspot.com. You can find out more about me and my books at my website: www.daniellethorne.jimdo.com.

Sending prayers and well-wishes to those of you affected by this terrible tragedy. And for my beautiful sea turtles…

Danielle, I absolutely adore the Caribbean and did quite a bit snorkeling the two times I got to travel there.

I did overcome my fear of drowning by learning to scuba dive and did dive in Hawaiian waters. It was phenomenal!

Sorry to say this, but I'd like to take appropriate fierce action against ALL those who are responsible for the oil volcano and ALL those who are now stopping clean up efforts. It is mass murder of the people, of the animals, of the sea and of the land and beaches.

Such a lovely, heart-felt sentiment about the pristine waters of the Gulf and the Caribbean. We have family in Pensacola who have for 79+ years had weddings on the beach, and birthday parties, and family reunions, and campouts, and several men were shrimpers. All that gones, never to return in their lifetime--it simply will never be the same. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and have a great appreciation for nature down there.
Your book sounds intriguing--and it's being released at a very good time. Congratulations,Dani--Celia

Hi Danielle. Congratulations on your latest release. Your love of the sea shines through in all you write. As celia as said, your book is released at a very apt time. I hope it does well.

Savanna, I'm with you. I think they should ban all deep water mining - espec in an arctic. They're at the limit of what they can do now, in technical terms, and look at the mess! Look at the mess in the Niger delta and off the Cornish coast in the late 1970s.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my grief for the oil spill--and that's what is it. Savanna, that's cool you've dove in Hawaii--I don't know if I could that...I have this strange ridiculous fear of great white sharks! lol--I love sharks--but I don't know if I could dive in areas where great whites are found.

Thanks for the kudos on the book, ya'll!
