What Is Biker Fiction

Photobucket

What is Biker Fiction?

Biker Fiction is my favourite genre to write. I’ve lived amongst the ‘biker’ community most of my adult life. When I became a published author, I made it my mission to try and change the image of bikers, one book at a time.

More often than not, when you read something in the paper about bikers, it’s something bad. Unfortunately many people believe just that , that all people who ride motorcycles and wear black leather jackets are bad ass troublemakers with no regard for the law, or ‘citizens’ in general.

I’m here to say, nothing could be further from the truth. Every year bikers from all over the globe raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity—Ride for Site, Ride for Cancer Research, Ride for Juvenile Diabetes...the list is endless.

Most of the people I have grown up and lived amongst are contributing members of society who believe family comes first. These same people live, love and laugh the same as you and I. The only difference being, they share a love for riding motorcycles and the open roads.

My books try to portrait ‘bikers’ as regular people, who cry when their hearts are breaking and laugh out loud at the antics of children. I invite you to check out my Iron Horse Ride series, or Smiling Eyes. I also have a new release coming out next week, March 25th, titled Crucified.

Let me share a little about this before I sign off.

Coming to The Wild Rose Press – March 25th, 2009

Sneak Peek:

Casey struggled to open her eyes. She blinked numerous times trying to focus in the darkness. Painfully, she managed to inch her way across the rank mattress and wedge herself upright in the corner. With every move, the duct tape binding her wrists and ankles bit into her flesh.

An insurmountable desire to scream was stifled by the duct tape her captor had pulled taut across her mouth. She’d only see him once since being brought here and even then the darkness hid his identity. He’d stayed long enough to snap a picture before he slipped through the partially open doorway. The sound of it locking behind him resounded through the room.

Who is this man? Why is he doing this to me?

The last thing she remembered was walking home from Tammy’s house when someone came up from behind her and shoved a putrid smelling cloth in her face.

She’d woken up in this room, bound and gagged. There was no telling how long she’d been unconscious. The only way to differentiate from day to night was the sliver of a crack at the bottom of the door where light filtered in.

Casey choked back the flood of emotion rising up in her. She struggled for breath, unable to open her mouth. Tears poured down her face unchecked, and she closed her eyes.

Am I going to die here?

Fascinating blog, Adelle! I love big bikes and am intrigued by that whole lifestyle aspect.

Your sneek peek of CRUCIFIED is wonderful. What a cliff-hanger!I hope you're going to give us all a bit more when it's released.

What Lindsay said, actually.

I used to want a Harley pretty darn bad. But my life took another route.

Suspenseful excerpt, for sure!

Hi Savanna and Adelle,
I once went on a ride of a 700cc big bike and it was great - I was so high off the ground and the speed was amazing!

Never forgotten.

I'm so behind you. I blame much of the bad rap on bikers on the movies and the few that make the papers.

Bikers are the kindest, most thoughful people I've ever met. We have Harley bikers in the family, one is my oldest son, and we used to hit the Sturgis Bike Ralley every year we lived in South Dakota. There is nothing more beautiful then the site of the two lane highway full of Harley's coming in for the rally. I believe it was the 2oth or 25th, anniversary. I have a horrible memory. It was late 80's, early 90's. People lined along the highway and overpass to welcome them. My brother-in-law, his wife and their son were among them, each on their own bikes.

I have Harley friends in California and she's a trained and licensed Harley mechanic.

I never once felt fear walking among the thousands of bikers. I was more comfortable with them then I was anywhere else I've been.

I'm definetly going to be checking out your books, Adelle, and turning my family onto them.

Lindsay, I got to ride on the back of bike a couple of times. It neared being on the back of a racing horse, in sheer heaven.

Bekki, what a fantastic experience. I've always wanted to give that one a try.

Hey ladies I'm glad you enjoyed reading my post today.
I agree wholeheartedly Bekki. In the wind, is where I want to be.
Good luck, you never know, you might be the winner of one of my books.

In college, I had this fantasy of buying a Harley and riding across the US with a good friend of mine to the grad school I'd been accepted to. Two young, good looking women in black leathers and on Harley's. It sounded like fun. It never happened.

Like any other community of people, there are good and bad elements. The news likes to sensationalize whatever they can. It's not surprising they focus on the darker elements of the biker community. That's news to them, even though it's certainly only a small portion of it.

Congratulations on your new title!

Marci

Well it'd time for me to hit the sack. I had my daughter pick a name to be fair. Congrats Bekki, you won. If you could send me your choice at adellelaudanATadellelaudan.com I'll send you your Ebook in the morning.
Thanks again to all who commented. Have a good night.

Adelle, I was terrified of bikes until my husband was finally able to get his dream Harley and now I pout when it's gorgeous outside and we can't be on it.

It's a real eye-opener in a lot of ways. I was the quiet girl at school who loved books and art and got good grades and never partied. One of these days, I want to go back to my home town to a reunion on the back of my husband's Harley. ;-)

I hope you get the opportunity to do that. Half of my rider friends, don't drink, who'd a thunk it lol
Maybe one day, you'll have your own scoot, that would really blow their minds lol

Hi Adelle! This just sounds fab! I have to tell you-- my brothers are in a band, and a few years ago they were playing at a club where bikers hang out. They became such good friends. To this day, my brothers have several bikers as security for their concerts. It's so cool.

Lindsay gave me a heads up - I've been married in readying a story to turn in.

Thanks so much Adelle - tell your daugher she brought me luck.

I've chosen to start with the Iron Horse series.

Ah, I don't want to drive one myself. My husband already suggested I get one, but no, I don't even like driving my car I love more than I need to. I love the freedom of just letting go and looking at nature closer than you can in a car or truck, and it's great for taking photos, also!

However, a character in my series is going to have one either at the end of the current WIP or the beginning of the next. He can drive it for me. ;-)
