Christmas Down Mexico Way

One year ago, we traveled on a tour bus all the way south to Oaxaca, Mexico in the mountains south of Mexico City. The Mexican residents celebrate Christmas in a big way, especially on Christmas Eve. That is the time for families to go out to the squares and through the town visiting, eating, singing, and especially indulging the children. On Christmas Day, everyone stays home, for it is the time for families to be together for private celebrations and worship and presents. I have some photos to show you some of the ways they celebrate.

Photo Left. An organ cactus way out in the desert. This beautiful wild flowering shrub looked like a Christmas tree to me.

Photo right:--me and my husband. We were shopping in an outdoor market place. Sorry we have sunglasses on, but the sun was very bright.

Photo Left: This enormous church sat on one downtown square, and another huge square connected to it by two corners. There were so many poinsettias, I couldn't stop gazing at their beauty.

Photo right. These young adults were praticing their song on the steps of the church.

Photo Left: Christmas Eve Mass.

Photo Left: Indians from the Mountains, bringing incense to the church.

PHOTO BELOW:
Does this look like the day after Christmas? We had such a wonderful time in the interior of Mexico. We've been down there three times in the same general area, but different cities and villages each time. In that part of Mexico, we were impressed with the politeness and hospitality of the people.
The cities and villages are generally kept very clean. You will not see litter all over the sidewalk or
squares.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!

Beautiful photos. Hubby and I visited Mexico and Oaxaca several years ago and loved it. Christmas time looks particularly beautiful though.

FRANCESCA--THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LOOKING AT MY PHOTOS. Even though you darling children didn't help you decorate the tree, I hope you have a wonderful Merry Christmas. Celia

Celia, thank you for that extraordinary look at Mexico - I have never been there myself but have heard so many lovely things. And, lol, I thought the cactus had been decorated for Christmas, it was lovely.
