Room For More Promo and Chat Groups - You Betcha!

Over the last year, I've seen many writer and author groups bloom and fall away, change posting rules and so on.

Why is this?

Well, some want to preserve the chat quality. There is nothing more disturbing then to be following along a chat and suddenly there are multiple promo and excerpt posts disrupting it. For me, I know, it's a royal pain as I sit here within the actual loops replying and hitting continue or next. It's rare I ever look at the digests and I never respond via them.

And then there are the groups where promos are allowed on certain days, excerpts anytime, theme days. All the groups have the same basic rules. Check posting rules, check calendar so you don't disrupt chats - many don't, many mass mail their posts with no regard. Some simply have a regimen and in a hurry and don't think to check.

Because of the influx of promos and excerpts in all the various groups, groups are losing chatters.

Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth it. You know keeping up with the new, the altered rules, not to speak of the time it take away from writing that next story. And just about that time, they prove themselves invaluable. So, yeah, the more the merrier.

Competition for the sale has often over shadowed courtesy and common sense. I think it's also one of the reasons blogs are popping up all over the place. It's giving people a chance to talk without the disruptions.

And then there is the confusion factor. So many aren't clarifying the genre of their work. Maybe it's because they think everyone should know by now because they've been spreading the word. Well, with so many authors to keep track of and so many writing multiple genres, we're expecting a lot.

The other day, I noticed one of the small groups that I hit with an excperpt two or three times a week seems to have closed down without warning. It's not the first one. Sometimes it's simply because the owners life has become too busy to keep up, while some had a vision when they opened the group and it was overrun.

Anyway, it sparked me to open up two chat groups. Happily Ever After Authors2 and Romances For More.

People who join them will know exactly what is being discussed and offered up. There are genre theme days within each group. Authors can schedule chats. There are strict promo and excerpt rules which are posted on the home page of each group. These aren't groups to interact with me, though I'll pop in and out from time to time. These are for everyone.

Happily Ever After Authors2 is affiliated with the blog -- it's for male-female romances of all genres and heat levels with a happily ever after.

Romances For More is for alternative romances - menage, f/f, m/m, multiple partners, non-happily ever after.

I hope you'll join one or both and feel free to utilize them. Spread the word.

Thanks, Bekki! I agree with you about chats - it's very disconcerting to be talking and suddenly be interrupted. I also agree - the more groups, the merrier!

I've joined both groups, by the way! I wish you all the best with them.

Thanks Lindsay --

I hope they bring new friends and sales for everyone.

Good idea, Bekki.

Both authors and readers want to post/read about the types of stories they like. Neither benefit from wading through piles and piles of posts that don't appeal to them. If someone wants to try a new genre, there are tons of loops out there, and it's easy to find something you like.

Thanks, Linda -

With the busy schedules everyone has, it can be quite frustrating weeding through looking for your favorite genre.

And for those who are looking for anything that might catch their fancy, or in the mood to try something new, like you said, there are plenty of places to go when they have the time to sit and browse.

Wow! This is a great post, Bekki! It is so confusing out there now with so many writers and loops and chats going on everywhere!
Thanks for opening up these groups. Kaye

Bekki, you are so right. It's brain-spinning and mind-numbing out there. And often, just not fun at all.
I'll be joining up and spreading the word where I can. Thanks for posting.
