Reviewfest: Irresistible Reviews for Irresistible Romances

Reviews, what are they and what do they mean? For me as the author, they are a readers perspective of what I write, a mini critique, whether they come from an official review site or a random reader who chose my book from thousands of others to purchase. They're all entitled to their opinion and if they choose to let me know their thoughts, then I take them seriously. If I don't, then I'm failing as a writer. There is always something to learn from them.

For the most part, I've received rave reviews rated 5's, 4.5's, 4's and yes, even some 3.5's which were glowing, and some lower ratings which an author must take in stride. Not all readers will get what you write, but that's the great thing you realize when the sting eases. After all writers have egos, too. We would like everyone who reads our work to love it. However, like us, readers come from all walks of life and your world might not be their cup of tea.

Following is a smidgen of reviews I've received since my first book came out in 2008.

Jewel of the Sun's Blood Destiny - erotic paranormal

If reading were a physical thing then I ran through this book. I was entranced from the very beginning with both of the main characters. Bekki Lynn has an amazing talent for weaving the spell around the reader and preventing from leaving story until it was done. It was almost like the spell on the main characters included me the reader. The erotic love in this book is off the charts hot. Coffee Time Romance

Sizzling yet thoroughly enticing, Jewel of the Sun's Blood Destiny by Bekki Lynn left this reader wanting for more. I loved this book and all of its' characters from the first page and as I traveled more into it I fell in love with this mystical yet sensually tantalizing story. Envisioning your dream lover is an ability any woman would love to experience and for Cassandra she not only dreamt it but also experienced it first hand. This book is a happily-ever-after that conquers uncertainty and heartache to discover the strength it takes to hold on to your wildest dreams and Ms Lynn has been able to do just that. Kudos Ms Lynn on your fantastic tale. Sensual Reads

The plot is entertaining and gripping as well as the cast of supporting characters. They are soul mates, two-halves of one and can only be fully complete when they are together. Connected by the spirits and a power beyond their control. Cassandra's ex-fiancee plays an important that I will hold back from any details as I don't want to give away any spoilers! But I wish I could have kicked him in the skins. He was a bully and a cheater to boot! There are some really sad events that happen in the story that bummed me out, but I feel their story wouldn't have been complete without them as well. And the connection between Elan and Cassandra and those beautiful jewels from Elan's grandfather hold the secrets to their future that will bond their souls together an an eternity. If only they would believe and not fight destiny. Bekki Lynn will leave you leaving them breathless and longing for more. It will seriously steam up your windows, so turn on the AC for this hot, sexy and sweet story of love and destiny. Book Junkie

Great spicy quick read. I liked the idea behind the story and the involvement of the grandparents. The chemistry between Elan and Cassandra is hot and be felt blazing off the pages. If your looking for a quick read to get lost in for a while, than this is something I would recommend. Nightowl Romance

Available at Smashwords, Amazon, Sony, Diesel, and Barnes & Noble

Annie and the Young Master - erotic historical

This is sweet and erotic tale of love and hope. If you believe in fairy tales and happily ever after, this story is for you. It takes a well known, puts a new spin on it, and gives it enough steamy romance to make it an adult love story. Bekki Lynn knows how to write erotic fairy tales that will have you wishing your very own prince. Coffee Time Romance

Lynn intrigues the reader right from the start with Lillian's plight. Lillian is full of resolve, determined to find her way despite the challenges she faces. Samuel knows his heart and won't give up until he gets what he wants. The love scenes paint a highly charged erotic connection between Lillian and Samuel that will leave the reader wanting more. Annie and the Young Master is a sinfully delicious Cinderella story. Stephanie Burkhart via Smashwords

Samuel is an appealing, charismatic hero and Lillian (Annie) an enterprising and sympathetic heroine. The story is based on an old fairy story, Cap O' Rushes, and also has elements of Cinderella, too. A lovely tale that I really enjoyed and recommend. Lindsay Townsend via Smashwords

Available at Smashwords, Amazon, Sony, Diesel, and Barnes & Noble

Jackie's Boys - menage a trios

Jackie's boys is a very sexy, but sweet menage a trios love story. It is very erotic, and I liked how Ms. Lynn set up the encounter between Jackie and Randy. Ms. Lynn also did a great job of showing while the two brothers may look alike, they each have their own different personalities. This is a very hot and enjoyable read that is worth adding to anyone's book collection. Coffee Time Romance

Available at Smashwords, Amazon, Sony, Diesel, and Barnes & Noble

Last Glass of Wine - erotic contemporary

I enjoyed Last Glass of Wine and think that anyone who likes to read about strong characters who will sacrifice their happiness for loved ones will enjoy the twists and turns throughout the story. Joyfully Reviewed

I love it when a book makes me cry! Last Glass of Wine by Bekki Lynn had me up, down and twisted into emotional pretzel knots by the time I finished reading. The characters were refreshingly natural and heart wrenchingly vulnerable in a way that made the story sweet. I particularly enjoyed the party scene where they played horseshoes. Wondering about it? Read the book, it's worth it. Manic Readers

The thing I really liked about Last Glass of Wine was this feature where it read like a real life story. I felt, at times, like I was hearing the tale first hand from a girlfriend. The way Bekki Lynn combined the budding relationship between Lana and Cole with their work atmosphere was amazing. I think I actually learned a thing or two about the restaurant business. It made the story more interesting for me. As you read you cannot escape the feeling that you are right there in the restaurant, observing all the players (the only thing missing was the food). There are two kinds of erotica--or it might be more accurate to say there are two parts of erotica. One is the build up and the other is the actual intimacy that occurs. Everyone has their favorite part, but in Last Glass of Wine there is plenty of both and when these two characters finally got together, WOW! I don't want to spoil it for anyone who is about to read the book but that first scene was quite exciting for me, and unique too, which I particularly like. From there, the story continued and came to a close with a nice feel good dose of romance that was almost, but not quite, too sweet swallow. I recommend the Last Glass of Wine to readers who like a heaping dose of drama in their erotic romance. Dark Angel Reviews

The thing that is quite unique about Last Glass of Wine is its realism. During the evolving love story of the two main characters the reader also gets an in-depth look into the restaurant business. And this realism draws the reader right into the story, right into Rogan's Steakhouse to witness the emotions and the intimacy between Lana and Cole taking place while taking orders and getting out the food. Library Things

What an amazing story. I felt like I was on a roller coaster with my emotions. First I hated Cole, then I loved Cole, then I could feel the steam coming off Cole. This is a story that takes you to the highs and some very low points. I had tears in my eyes during some scenes in this story. The descriptions that Ms. Lynn provides makes me feel as if I am experiencing the episodes. When Cole drinks from the same spot on the glass that Lana did and than licks the rim, I could feel it on my lips. When we get into the scene in the bar after hours, Oh My. Ms Lynn knows not only restaurants, as proven by her slang, descriptions of openings and closings, and serving but I really enjoyed how she threw in the Chicago Cubs. Being from the Windy City, I loved how she referred to the team and the players. Last Glass Of Wine is a rich story, full of robust scenes and good to the last glass. Whipped Cream

A Psychic Hitch - erotic contemporary

I've read several books by Bekki Lynn now and I can say that the hallmark of her style is the sensitivity of her characters. If Allen were real I'd marry him!!! Oh wait, I'm already married, darn. I actually cried for Cheri when she revealed why she is shy of relationships and the end, well it was a twist worthy of a pretzel maker. I loved A Psychic Hitch and I dearly hope you will too, go read it today and see if I'm right. Manic Readers

This may have been a short read but it packed quite a punch. Cheri wants to be a mother so badly and is willing to do almost anything to get her wish. She had her blinders on so when Allen came into the picture he just blindsided her. The sex scenes were hot but worked so well with the story. I love these types of books where the man just sweeps them off their feet. Every woman should be so lucky. The Romance Erotica Connection

I really enjoyed Bekki Lynn's writing style, which is unique and captivating. She has penned a cute, tongue-in-cheek story what will keep tickling your funny bone and keep you reading until the last page. It's a read to not be missed. Euro Reviews

A Psychic Hitch is Passionate and heartwarming. The connection between Cheri and Allen is something special. It shows us that the best laid plans are not always what we need when looking for that special someone. Bekki Lynn has a unique writing style that is both smoldering hot and compassionate. I am finding I enjoy her books. She is one author I will read more of. Moondance Reviews

THE PSYCHIC HITCH was a wonderful story about how two people meet in a unique way and find true happiness. I enjoyed reading THE PSYCHIC HITCH because of the characters and the twists in the book. I love to be surprised and that's what I was in this story. I never knew what was going to happen. Romance Junkies

Holidays - They Are a Comin'

It may only be September, but the holidays are upon us. I look forward to September. The moment I see the Halloween décor and candy put out, I know it's a matter of days before the Christmas decorations will appear. I drool.

Yeah, I hear you all groaning, but it makes me happy, makes me smile, makes me giddy. The holidays are my favorite time of year.

Jesse, my son, and I went orchard hopping Monday. Oh, my! We had a blast. The first place we stopped was a disappointment as orchards go, but love the wares in the shops. After we shared an amazing cinnamon roll, purchased cider donuts and pumpkin butter, we explored the gift shop. The scarecrows, the decorated pumpkin shelf sitters, the old world tree ornaments of Santa, sleighs, snowmen. It was a small place, so we moved on.

The next place had only a shop, but you were allowed to walk around the working farm and see the animals. Of course, we did. The roosters were confused, crowing at noon. When we entered the shop, we fell in love immediately. They had two ten foot shelves lined with fruit spreads and preserves. Strawberry, blueberry, pumpkin, elderberry, blackberry, pineapple, gooseberry, you name they had it. And the cookbooks - a family weakness. There we purchased plums that we're enjoying immensely, blueberry and pineapple preserves, and corn for my squirrels. We're returning for gift shopping.

Last but not least is the best place in the area. This place is amazing. Samples galore; I probably gained five pounds. Peach and corn salsa, dill dip, pickled beets, hot and spicy bread and butter pickle, peanut butter, preserves, caramel sauce, honey, raspberry sauce - the place knows how to entice sells. We purchased Peach grilling sauce and used it on grilled chicken last night - it was delicious. I can't wait to try the Peach and Pecan dressing.

But best of all was they devoted an entire corner to Christmas decorations. One tree and several shelves and drawers were nothing but snowmen; carved ones, metal ones, glass and porcelain. Trays, chip and dip servers, coasters - anything you could possibly think of. How'd they know I had a thing for snowmen? lol My husband groaned. Oh, yeah, I didn't mention that for this stop, Jesse's girlfriend and my husband joined us.

I'm so hyped up that I've been trying to figure out where to put my tree this year; which new ornaments to buy. I always purchase six new ones every year. And I've been searching various sites to purchase new stockings. I have a new daughter-in-law to be to add to my spree this year so it's a good excuse to buy new, monogrammed stockings. I love shopping for everyone.

Jackie's Boys

What a fun story to write!

This wasn't the story I started out doing for this genre, but I found the story I was doing too much for a short. I'm so glad that happened, because I love this story. I didn't at first, because I really didn't know what I was doing in writing a short menage. Generally, you want all three point of views, but there's simply not a lot of room in a ten thousand word story. At least for this inexperienced short story writer. I actually left it all in the heroines pov, which I normall cringe at. And, I don't generally have a sense of humor, much less write it, but these twins pulled me into their antics and made it too easy.

Jackie's Boys was included in a recent anthology release. I've since revised it and wa-la!

Blurb:

Jackie's used to the antics of her husband, Lenny, and his twin brother, Randy, but this time they decided to include her in their lastest bet. She had forty-eight hours to figure out which one of them she was married to. However, she decides to turn the game around on them by following through on a long-time fantasy to have both brothers at the same time. [menage a trios]

PG Excerpt:

She was picking beans to can and freeze when chatter had her looking over her shoulder. "Morning, lazy-butts!" she called out.

"You’re the farmer."

"You were raised in the country." They stood barefoot, wearing identical black shorts, not that it mattered. She wouldn’t know who she was bantering with if they wore different colors.

"Can we help?"

All right, what were they up to now? "Sure, you can." She looked around to see what would be safest for her vegetables. "You can pull weeds in the corn rows. You know, the dirt path between those rows of tall green stalks."

"Ha ha."

"I’d put shoes and shirt on, gloves wouldn’t hurt."

They came down the row behind her and picked her up by her underarms, letting her feet dangle.

"Hey, guys! I’ve work to do if you want to eat this winter. Len, don’t you have to work today."

They set her down on the patio sandwiched between them. The one behind her moved the lose strands of the hair and started kissing her neck. "I wouldn’t do that if I were you," she said about the time he started sputtering.

"Damn it tastes like—"

"Bug spray. Part of my gardening attire.

"Ok, fine. How long before you wash it off?" The man in front of her asked.

"When the work is done." She walked over to the ledge near the kitchen window and picked up her gardening cologne. "I’ll be done sooner if you help." They held out their arms, allowing her to spray them down.

She watched them approach the corn, eye it, look at one another then they took opposite ends of the twenty twelve-foot rows she planted. They got down on their hands and knees and started pulling. It was all she could do not laugh her ass off at the site of two grown men crawling around in the corn. They didn’t have to, but she decided to let them punish themselves for a bit. She returned to the beans, listening for grumbles.

"This is going to take a week."

"Yeah, well, you have the softer end."

"No, you do. Let’s switch."

She smirked and watched them trade places, not ready to end their suffering.

"Man, the weeds are cemented in."

"Told you."

"Trade back."

"No"

Jackie rolled her eyes and relented. She stood and went over to the shed where she pulled out two hoes. Walking over to the corn, she stood for a moment eyeing their asses. She whistled and they both looked around at her. "Nice view, sexy, I call a tie at ten." She tapped the tools on the ground. "This is what I use to weed. I’m pretty sure you were brought up to use them, too." They all but ran to her.
Each man grabbed one, kissed her on the mouth and muttered, "Ten and a half," as they walked away.

Laughing, she returned to the beans to finish her last row for the day.

When she reached the end of the row, she realized she hadn’t heard a peep from the guys in a while. She went along the corn until she saw them. They worked fast having done a little over half between them and the work was passable. Satisfied, she hauled the bushel of beans to her outdoor sink, uncovered it and started filling it with water before dumping the beans in to wash them. As it filled, she did what she often did on bean pickin’ day, she stripped out of the clothes and stood under the outdoor shower to wash the sweat, repellant and itch away. The cold water felt wonderful on her heated skin, caused as much from the guys’ near nakedness then sun beating down on her. Without drying, she pulled on a smock top which once belonged to her mother-in-law. It covered her ass and that was all she needed as she washed the beans and picked off the ends. She had two tubs to put them in as she did. One for the ones she snapped for canning, the other for ones she left whole for the freezer.

"Hey, tryin’ to distract us?"

She grinned. "Get back to work."

"I did my half." He stood under the shower with his shorts on. "You always run around naked."

"We’re in the country, no two-legged neighbors," she said, watching the water run down his chest. "You’re distracting me. Why don’t you go in and turn the burner on under the black kettle?"

He came over to her, dripping and put his arms around her. "Since we're distracted, I think we should do something about it."

Annie and the Young Master - Its Inception

Several months ago I volunteered to do a story for a fairy tale anthology. Am I nuts, yes. I'm not big on fairy tales per se. So, what was I thinking?

Anyway, believe it or not there is a list floating around on the internet of the most common fairy tales used for such adventures. Staying with my 'dare to be different' motto, I passed on the list and went in search of other fairy tales, uncommon tales. I went through several before I landed on an old English tail Cap 'O Rushes by Joseph Jacobs. A bit out of my element, but both Lindsay and Jane Richardson gave me links and guided me. I appreciate them coming to save the day for me.

Since the story takes place in the late 1800's, and in the UK, I wanted to keep many of the elements of the original story. This meant I needed information of a whole other lifestyle and culture. In the process of writing the story, I had to look into how the kitchen chores would be done, crops that would grown so I wouldn't have the heroine pilfering the wrong fruit as I put my twist on the story. It was fun to look at clothing styles for both the ladies and the staff.

Oh, and don't forget the struggles of finding photos for the cover. Oh, gosh. Search words make all the difference in the world when looking for the right photo in royalty free sites. Jane sent me links to homes in the UK that might fit what I needed. While looking at the gorgeous pieces of property, it occurred to me and was so obvious, use the term British when looking for a home for the cover. Wala, the right photo popped. I love teamwork.

Annie and the Young Master turned out to be fun to write. It's a Cinderella type story with its own twist, but then I put my embellishments on it. Please enjoy.

Blurb: Banished from her home, Lillian Basford picked herself up and set out to start a new life. When Samuel Wadkins came along and gave her a real-life taste of what her dreams with him had teased her with, she became torn between her life as it was and what it’d now become.

Excerpt:

She scanned the room, taking in the gowns of reds, greens and blues, even gold, silver and purples. They made her pastel pink dress feel drab. Stepping back to take her leave, her eyes landed on his. He came toward her and she froze. How was she going to escape?

He stopped before her and bowed. “May I make your acquaintance?” he asked. “My name is Samuel Wadkins.”

Manners led her to curtsy. “Excuse me. I can not stay.”

He held his hand out to her. “I’d be pleased if you danced with me.”

His eyes held hers when they met. Lillian could not deny him. With her hand in his, he led her to the dance floor and laid a hand on her waist. She followed his lead easy enough, having danced with her father many times around the house.

“I’ve not seen you before, have I?” he asked.

“Would it matter?” she asked, her eyes lowered, voice quiet.

“Who’s your family?”

“Many questions. Am I to believe you’re in training for service?” she asked, tilting her head to look up at him.

“Forgive me.”

Samuel’s hand tightened on her waist as he whirled her around the floor, stopping to twirl and dip her. He held left her bent over his arm longer than necessary, his eyes penetrating hers. She worried he might see familiarity in her depths. Part of her wished not, part of her was glad to be near him even if she suffered another cold dip in the water to cool her wanting of his body. His eyes began to darken with desire and she shivered. If he laid her out now on the floor and loved her, the onlookers would be forgotten.

He drew her up, saying, “I feel I’ve seen into your eyes before. They’re such a unique blue, between the sky and the night.”

“It’s the lighting, maybe the event,” she murmured. Her heart pounded from both the dance and the desire steadily rising from being near him and remembering what it had felt like to have her body with his.

“I shall like to dance with you all night.”

She didn’t know what to say, but the change in the music temple set them off on a waltz. They glided around the floor as if they were alone. For her it seemed so. Their eyes watched one another as they whirled among others. If his could be trusted, he saw into her soul, the depths of heart. No laughter came from what he saw, but rather his eyes darkened with the same need she'd seen that morning too many fortnights ago.

When the music ended, he drew her close to him. She felt his breathlessness equal hers, from activity she would have believed had she not seen the growing need spread over his face. Was he so easily taken he couldn’t control himself? This thought pricked her heart, but she wanted to believe somewhere deep within him, a particle of him knew she to be Annie. It could wishful thinking or a way to save her heart for the moment, maybe.

He led her toward a table and handed her a glass of punch before guiding her through the nearest open door. She found herself in the night air, welcoming the breeze.

“I used to wonder about these affairs, but then I was sent off to school before I could attend.”

“Is it everything you imagined?”

“Yes, and no,” he said, closing the respectable distance between them. With a finger, he tipped her chin up. “There’s something about you, familiar.” His head bent near her ear and he whispered, “My body claims to know you in ways it desires.”

She swallowed and took a step backward. “Did your school teach you to be so forward?”

“Pardon my bluntness. I’m not normally brash.” He took her glass and set it down on the nearby table. “Shall we?” he asked, extending his arm.

Relieved to return to the dance floor, she wished for the normalcy the night should have had. Maybe know Samuel in an accepted sense of what's proper.

The chimes of a clock reached her. She listened and knew it to be the hour of ten. She must hurry home. Before the music began once more, she reached up on her toes and whispered in his ear. “Blessings to you, Samuel.” Then she turned to leave, but he pulled her back, holding her to his body.

His mouth claimed hers, releasing a hunger she should have kept back. Rather she drank and gave as she’d done that morning many weeks ago. The quiet of the room disturbed her and she pushed at him to let her go. “I have to go.” She ran from the room.

“Annie, wait!”

She heard him, but went for the buggy sitting beside the nearest carriage rather than wait for it brought up.

“Annie!” he called after her again.

Talk Radio - Opening Up a New Avenue

Talk Radio isn’t really a new concept. Many have been doing it for years. What’s changed is the way it’s done and who’s doing it. Businesses and non-business people are doing it. All it requires is a phone and computer.

There are different aspects when it comes to choosing the podcast format for you. Blog Talk Radio is one of the largest, if not the largest site for resting your laurels. Here, you can sign up as a listener or a host. Of course like everything else, you can upgrade to a paid account and have access to features to enhance your ability to reach listeners.

As authors, we’re always hearing, find your target audience. Talk radio gives authors an opportunity to reach an audience of your genre; have guests and take calls from listeners. It’s a real way to interact with people and let them get to know you.

Currently, they have over three hundred episodes in the Book category alone from authors, editors, reviewers, publishers and promotion gurus. Promotion is how I actually came upon Blog Talk Radio. I was doing some research and one of the pages had a link. I listened and was impressed with what I heard and thought, ok, this can be an avenue for promotion. Like some of us, ideas are great, but implementing them isn’t always so easy. Breaking down the barrier of introverted authors is one of the biggest challenges. Almost as difficult as finding an interesting topic to talk about don’t you think?

If you look through the different podcasts, you’ll see some names I think many of us know – Phoebe Jordan, Nikki Leigh, Rachelle Chase, and maybe some others.

What I didn’t see which leaves a niche wide open is no podcasts on specific genres. I would think having those would not only help authors and readers find a commonality, but allow for a wide range of interviewees within the genre.

Still afraid of taking the step? I am – it’s something new to learn and changes aren’t really my cup of tea. However, in their drop-down menu under Home, click on help and let them take away your fears. They give you the low-down and how to in what appears to be a simple manner.
I know this may not be conducive to dial-up internet, but for those maybe doing an interview would be ideal.

I’m pondering and will look into things a bit deeper

The Magic of Candles

Don't they look quite the duo?

Jfay of Wick'd Reads did a fabulous job, didn't she?

We use candles for many different reasons. For comfort, to cleanse the air, to scent the air and even to cover odors or to give light during a power outage.

For most of us, we love to use candles to set the mood for special dinners and bedroom romance.

I use them in many different forms, because I've always had this fasination with candles. I used to sit and drip wax from different candles into jars and cans to make tye dye candles for fun. Or maybe I was bored, I don't know. I love the smell of candles burning, especially after you blow them out. I also use wickless candles in warmers -- I'm a candle junkie. I've turned my boys into candle junkies. lol

But have you ever wondered about the hidden magic of candles; what the colors might mean? Each have their own special attributes.

I'm easily intrigued by such things. I'm all about scents while very particular due to allergies. So, I looked it up, yet again.

White - It holds purity and power while bringing out the special effects of other colors burned along side. It has the ability to cleanse and give hope. If believed, it can help with healing.

Red - Makes me think of Valentine's Day, because red and love just seem to go hand in hand with passion and sexual appetite - well, one would hope. ;)

Pink - There is something innocent about pink, a simpleness that reminds me of young love, first success and wanting to live clean and carefree, honouring that is around me.

These are the colors of my first two candles Jfay made for my first two releases. Erotic Passions is magnificent -- it's Spiced Cherry scent adds to the combination of colors. It's perfect for bedroom romance. The very scent is erotic. At times, I walk into my bedroom and the spicy scent f cloves wafts through the air and I nearly melt into a puddle of desire.

It's available online, if you'd like to read more about it.

Last Glass of Wine -- fitting for the candle. It's scent is a very accurate Merlot, who needs a glass of wine while you're reading? I have to say, when the scent floats my way it makes me smile. It so reminds me of the sensual way Cole and Lana shared glasses of wine. I shiver at the thought of seeing him deliberately drink from where she had just had her lips.

If you'd like to read more about it, it's also available online.

And now, I have this gorgeous, sexy scented Jewel of the Sun candle which taunts me while I work in the kitchen. I swear it needs to be made into a men's body wash or cologne. It's blend of sage and citrus, bayberry and eucalytus is more than I could have hoped for. And we drooled over the sage and citrus blend before we added the others. We named the wonderful blend, Healing Potion and it can be found in on the Author Signature Scents page of Wick'd Reads.
What is the significience of the Jewel of the Sun's black and green? Well, I'm about to fill you in.

Green - while we all assoicate green with money, a green candle not only stands in agreement, but can promote other aspects such as bringing on prosperity, harmony, renewed balance, and even healing and protection.

Black - I saved this one for last for obvious reasons. Jewel of the Sun's BLOOD DESTINY talks of the healing aspects of the peridot and Bay Leaf tea. I never really thought about the signifcance of a black background for my cover, just seemped right therefore black for the candle seemed a given. Black is a powerful color for more than the reason most of us use it - to hide our weight or to ease eyestrain. It's protectiveness can bring a person back to reality, making them comfortable. You know, stablizing the mood, the fears and give us a bold spirit. But, you also have to becareful not to use too much of it with others to offset. If you've ever sat too long in a darkened room, have you noticed how your mood and disposition take a downturn? So, mix it with another color.

The choice of using the green with the black candle was to protray the peridot the story is centered around. However, the two together become a powerful spiritual energy source to bring you through the roughest times. And Cassandra needs all she can gather. She finds it through the peridot, the special blend of tea, and a the love of a man.

But more importantly, the candle represents healing magic we all could use in our lives. Don't you think?
What color candles do you have in your home? What are some of your favorite scents? I'm partial to vanilla and do use it alot, however, not all vanilla's are the same.
Happy Monday!

Under the Covers - Bekki Lynn

I'm particular about my book covers as most authors are and should be. No one knows our story and characters better. As the story unfolds, I begin to the envision the cover. What is on the cover is the gateway into the story. A cover artist and an author should work together on a cover as far as I'm concerned.

For the cover of my first Siren novel A Psychic Hitch I was asked for photos of possible cover options. I looked through my files of photos and sent in a few I thought would do - do as in fitting the 'sex sells' motto being thrown at me and in looking back over them, realized one was missing, so I sent it along. It was risky and I held my breath. That last photo was a hit and the final choice. You see, my stories are character driven not plot driven. So, while the title fits the overall struggle and plot surrounding the heroine, the photo is all heroine. The photo is aptly titled 'orgasm' and represents the heroines first ever orgasm the hero gives her on their first night together. It fits the heroine of this story.

I know most women prefer a sexy man on the cover of a book, but I was asked by someone who had critiqued the story for me months earlier to please not put a guy on the cover who might destroy her image of the hero. I so understood her point. So many covers have men on the cover who look good, but is not even close to resembling the hero of the story. This is a sore spot for me. I want covers to reflect the story, the characters and give an idea of what the story is about. I'm not all about 'sex sells', the story is more important and the cover needs to reflect that. I've seen so many covers that have been taken over the line and are embarrassing to look at, and it's those that give erotic romance a bad name.

Last Glass of Wine came along. I took painstaking moments to study photos of the couple who simply fit my characters and what would be perceived from them. I litterally made up the design on a page in my sitebuilder program and sent along the page address and photos. What I received back was different from what I had envisoned, but I was pleased with the final result. Jinger did a great job putting the professional touch to my photos.

One thing that did strike me as odd and I think it was someone else who brought it up -- why are my covers so white? I don't even like white walls, so yeah, I wondered that as well. Aside from the fact it's the way the photos were taken, I could have taken a blue tinted photo of the wine glass, but then I thought, it's a series and books in a series should have similar covers in one way or another. So, I guess white it is. Even the cover I've designed for the third book is bascially white. I'm quite amused at my muse for doing something a-typical even for me.

Now with my new cover, black is basic. I like black as anyone who's visited my website knows. It's sexy, it's easy on the eyes and anything goes with it. While the final cover of Jewel of the Sun's BLOOD DESTINY isn't my first vision, I had to do a one-eighty and come up with something else since the initial vision had been done on someone else's cover. I don't like doing what I've seen done on other covers. It's one of my pet peeves to look through pages and pages of covers and see how many are so alike or have the same couple or same male/female on them. Come on! With all the various royalty free photo sites available and the influx of photographers, there should never be two covers with the same people on them, much less the same design.

Anyway, I've yet to figure out much in cover designing, but what I've learned to do so far in making my new cover was not done solely on my own. Jesse, my son who often helps me out, and I worked on it all day and into the night a few months ago. It wasn't coming out like we envisioned, but we knew there was a way for it to. We went on to bed. The next morning, I was back at it and I had a thought and tried it. It worked. Excited, I went in and woke him up to show him and explain it. He slapped himself upside the head for not thinking of that simple thing. So, I finally had my cover for Jewel of the Sun's BLOOD DESTINY. I turned it in and it was fine until I saw it in the ebook format -- I didn't like it. Like so many other ebooks, the cover came out blurry. Why? I made it to the specifications I'd been given. So, when the publisher went to do the cover for the paperback, we found out it was a resolution issue with the photos themselves. So, I repurchased the photos at a higher grade and redid the cover, only this time, I also cleared up a matter that also bothered me. I encircled the hero's head in white rather than leaving it black on black. I love it even more. I'm looking forward to learning more tricks of the trade and doing more of my own covers. If I'm going to be nit-picky about my covers, I might as well take on the task where I'm allowed. I don't abide by the saying that writers should never do this or that, leave it to the professionals. Why, if I can do it just as well?

Here's an Adult Excerpt from Jewel of the Sun's BLOOD DESTINY to celebrate it's release day today:

“Let’s go to the bed,” he managed to say. She started to fall when she forgot to lower her leg before attempting to move forward. “In a hurry?” he asked, catching her. He meant to make light of it, but the huskiness of his voice gave a different meaning. The fire raged in him.

“I guess,” she said, righting herself.

She sounded equally as affected. He grabbed the camera, turned off the lights and left her to follow him. He didn’t dare touch her right now. He’d hurt her with the need threatening to erupt. When he flipped on the lights around the bed, he saw her climb on the bed and sit with her legs under her. She ran her hands over the cool satin, her eyes on them. His chest heaved and he raised the camera to capture the innocence of a seductress. Cassandra raised her head and looked through the viewer at him. “What do you want?” she asked with a sultriness, causing shivers to shoot through him.

The camera slipped, but he caught it. He swallowed. “Give me what you’re comfortable with.” Under normal circumstances, he knew beforehand what the client wanted, but this wasn’t a client. Shudders swept through him when she leaned back on her elbows, bringing her legs forward. The glimpse of the green thong she’d left on had his zipper pressing into hard flesh.
He wanted shots of her with her hand splayed over the scrap of green, the ring, the bracelet, maybe a finger slipped beneath the band as if she was thinking of removing them. Images raced through his mind. Heat broiled in his gut and more sweat beaded on his forehead.

She rubbed the soft sole of her foot against her ankle as she shook her hair back behind her. He reached for a softener lens and snapped it on the camera as she moaned.

“Do you feel it?’ she asked him.

“What do you feel?”

“I’m not sure. It’s like…It’s stronger than before.”

She ran her fingers through her hair as he forced himself to watch via the viewfinder. The air thickened around them, heavy, breathless air filled with monumental tension. He wanted to rip the sheet from her body and give a warrior cry as he joined with her body.

“I’ve awakened from these bizarre dreams…feeling like I’ve had hot…sweaty sex.” Her tongue ran over lips and she blew out while her breasts heaved. “Now, it’s like…intense foreplay.”

“The psyche factor,” he told her as he moved around the bed. She fell back on the pillow and the look on her face combined with her heaving breasts caused him to lower the camera. Color came into her cheeks and spread, her hips rose and her heel dug into the bed. He forced himself to continue taking shots, but the sounds of the camera no longer played a song for him. He’d never seen anyone come alive as she was. She groaned and balled the bedding in her hands. Her eyes closed and he forced down a moan and tried to tune out the raging fire within himself.

“So hot…wonderfully hot,” she whispered as her back arched, tipping her head back.

She reached for the knot lying in her cleavage and undid it, tossing the fabric aside. Perspiration rolled down his chest from the effort of trying to hold himself back. Her beautiful, perfect breasts lay before him, the tips hard and begging to be touched. He backed up and picked up the remote to the hidden cameras he used for couples who wanted full range shots with privacy. What was happening before him needed recorded, even if it was in stills. She was consumed with the same fiery passion he’d been dealing with.

“More, I need more,” she mumbled.

Release Day - Happy Ever After Anthology

Happy Ever After Anthology includes my Annie and the Young Master - Banished from her home, Lillian Basford picked herself up and set out to start a new life. When Samuel Wadkins came along and gave her a real-life taste of what her dreams with him had teased her with, she became torn between her life as it was and what it'd now become. (Historical fairy tale)

This is my first attempt to rewrite a fairy tale. When I committed to doing it, I knew I didn't want to rewrite any I'd seen done. So, I went through a long, long list of fairy tales and came upon an English tale titled 'Cap 'O Rushes'. I tried to stay within the era and rewrite it with an erotic twist and embellishments. I think it came out fine.

Other eXcessica authors included: Gabriel Daemon, Elise Hepner, Giselle Renarde, Tessa Buxton, Karenna Colcroft, Phineas Magnus, Dakota Trace and Ava James.

Here's a snippet from Annie and the Young Master:
With her stomach grumbling at the sight of the plump dark fruit, Lillian plucked one and tasted. “Mmmm.” Sweetness filled her mouth. Taking the bunch, she walked back toward the road and sat among the tall grasses. She savored each morsel until the sound of horses hooves pounding the packed dirt road came near. She stilled, certain her cloak would keep her hidden if one should look her direction. The carriage passed her by.

“Whoa,” a male voice said.

Closing her eyes, she feared he owned the field and would have her jailed. Careful not to move, she listened. From the single sound of boots slapping the hardened dirt, she knew he’d jumped down. She held her breath as he came closer.

“Pilfering fruit from the vine, are we?”

His voice directly behind her startled her, but she didn’t turn.

“Come up here,” he said, grabbing her by the shoulders.

She rose, facing him as his hands insisted. Before her stood the man who spent a fortnight in her dreams. Lowering her head from his view, she remained silent.

“Why are you wearing such a garment?” His hands came up and moved the hood from her head, revealing what must look a tangled mass of haze.

Lillian swallowed the embarrassment of being less than presentable. “I’ve no other,” she said with a meekness his presence caused.

She let her eyes meet his when silence seemed to linger from him. Samuel Wadkins studied her eyes, her face with his deep gray eyes. Shivers swept through her as snippets of her dreams swam before her. His hands gentle on her, making her feel warm, special–like a woman. His words soft and loving as his face closed the distance between them. She always woke before the touch of his lips.

Samuel wiped his finger along her bottom lip then licked the juice from it, his tongue moving slow up to the tip. Tingles twirled in her belly.

“Mmm, I wonder…”

His young, smooth face became taught with strained…she wasn’t sure what, but she sensed no fear for herself.

Fingers grazed her cheeks. “Your skin is soft like silkweed,” he murmured.

“It is your touch that is smooth and tender.” Lillian’s heart drummed within her. How he could not hear, she did not know.

He reached for her hands and turned her palms up, caressing them with his. She wavered on her feet as fire seared through her veins.

“Tender flesh. I think you’re not a homeless waft, nor a worker.”

She yanked her hands back, wishing she’d considered her under worked flesh. “Please, sir. You’re being too familiar.”

“Not yet, but I feel…”

Before he finished, his arms were about her and his mouth was on hers, moving, tasting her lips and left while shock held her still. Fingers kneaded through the cloak, relaxing her. She dared to rest her hands on his waist while her mouth succumbed to his, even opening to him when he attempted to slip his tongue between her lips.

He teased her into playing and she became the lover she wanted to be for him. Letting her hands move up and wind around his neck, she slipped her fingers into his dark hair, enjoying the flavor of coffee and cinnamon as she mirrored his movements, kissing him with equal need, hunger.

Her knees bent as he lowered her, coming down to lay over her as she opened to see him. He watched her with eyes darkened by his need, his face drawn with what she also wanted. Waiting for him to guide her into what was new to her, a niggling voice said she was behaving unladylike. It didn’t override what the unfinished dreams left her wanting. She wanted to know him as her heart ached for him to know her. She felt her dress rise and her pantaloon pushed down. She searched his eyes, willing to give him what she’d been told was sacred to man she’d marry.

“I feel as I know you and don’t. Please, tell me your name,” he requested, his voice more gravelly than before.

Jewel of the Sun's BLOOD DESTINY

A little about the making of Elan and Cassandra's story.

I saw a call for submission for stories centering around gems, and more specificially birthstones. Excited, I jumped on the idea. There was no doubt my story would be about the peridot - the Evening Sun, the Jewel of the Sun, Gem of the Sun and many other mental and physical lores attributed to it. I absolutely love Peridot, it's my birthstone.

I knew others would go for the exotic Egytian route with their versions, but not me. I lived in Arizona for a while, near the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation where peridot is mined here in the United States. I have a special fondness for Native American's as it's part of my heritage, and felt it was the way to go with my story. Yet, I wanted it localized.

Jewel is the first story where I actually chose my hero's name first. I searched many name lists, many Apache name lists. I wanted something easily pronounced. I came across Elan and it meant friend. In any relationship, friendship is every bit as important as love, trust and faith. Takoda also means friend, so there I had the perfect name. Elan Takoda. Cassandra Jones, I simply pulled out of the air as I normally do, but I already knew she was going to need a friend in more ways than she could ever imagine.

I sat and wrote the story, agonized over critiques and finally finished it. I subbed it. Then I prayed for a rejection. I suddenly felt it the characters were short changed and needed more space then the call line allowed. Several months later, when it was on the edge of being accepted or rejected - it teetered in my favor. I breathed a sigh of relief and set to work on it. For over a year, I wrote, rewrote and followed my gut wherever something felt off.

The time came and I signed a contract. A new worry took over then. How will it be accepted? I mean, seriously, it's a paranormal, but not of today's trend. It's not about vampires, werewolves or shapeshifters. Will the critics be hard me for that? Will the readers feel like I regressed thirty years? The worry stayed with me, but this week, it's lessoned a tad.

Jewel of the Sun's BLOOD DESTINY just received it's first review and while it won't be posted on Coffee Time Romance & More's review site until April, I'm sharing it with you today.

Cassandra Jones is having a bad day. First she finds her fiance receiving personal attention from one of the other girls at work and punches him. If that was not bad enough she then finds she is part of a pact made by boyhood friends long before her birth. A pact that includes the sexiest man she has ever seen.

Elan Takoda knew that his grandfather was up to something when he sent the jewels to a pawn shop rather than his home. When he first lays eyes on Cassandra he realizes there is more to the story but knows that he must find a way to end the pain for him and Cassandra.

Elan and Cassandra have been hurt by life and have no desire to trust another with their heart. Together they must figure out how to break the spell that weaves them together but trying only made the spell stronger. When the spell is broken will they still be able to walk away from each other with their heart and souls intact?

If reading were a physical thing then I ran through this book. I was entranced from the very beginning with both of the main characters. Bekki Lynn has an amazing talent for weaving the spell around the reader and preventing them from leaving the story until it was done. It was almost like the spell on the main characters included me the reader. The erotic love in this book is off the charts hot. Bekki Lynn has just joined my list of TBR authors and if you will excuse me I think I need to go find everything she has ever written. Enjoy Jewel of The Sun’s Blood Destiny as it is a book no one should miss.

Delane

Delane gave Jewel of the Sun's BLOOD DESTINY 5 Cups -- Wohoo! Thank you, Delane!

Now, I know the verdict is still out, but I feel so blessed for this whopper of a review.

PG excerpt:

Cassandra moved up behind him and laid her hand on his shoulder. “Silent as a cat on prey, and hearing as astute as dog.” She knelt beside him and handed him the jewelry box. “This belonged to your Aunt Nikita.”

He looked at her as he took it. The light of the flames danced over her face, His heart fluttered with feelings threatening to melt his resolve.

Without a word, Elan took the necklace from the box. The likeness of the design still puzzled him. If this was his great aunt’s necklace, he had no memory of it. He didn’t recall anyone mentioning a missing necklace when she died, but then he was a young man.

“Explain. Tell me why you have the necklace of my aunt.” He looked at her and waited.
Cassandra swallowed, looking up at him with worried, crystal blue eyes. “She was my grandmother’s best friend. I have no shadow of her in my memory.” When she repositioned to face him, he turned and sat on the hearth to see her as she spoke. “The similarity in the designs rattled my grandfather’s memory and he found pictures of her wearing it.”

She reached out and fingered the necklace as the light of the fire glistened off her eyes. The seriousness he saw gave him a sense of what she had to tell him was a piece to the puzzle he needed. Her breasts rose and fell and the sheet she had wrapped around her slipped, revealing more of her tempting flesh. He forced himself to ignore the distraction. She turned her face toward the fire as she bit down on her bottom lip. With a gentle finger, he turned her face back to his and caressed her lips with his thumb, to stop her from drawing blood. She kissed the pad as her eyes watered.

“I don’t know what to make out of all this, Elan. I came here to give you the necklace, hoping…I don’t know. I thought if it had anything to do with this connection, these sexual…Hell, I don’t know what to call them. They’re real and not real and I can’t take the sleepless nights…the sex without it being…in this realm.” She blew out on a sigh. “I thought maybe if you have this, being a member of the family, returned full circle or something, it would all stop.”

I read somewhere that it's a shame the photographers never get credit for the photos we use on our covers. The photographer whose work is pure inspiration for me knows how much I appreciate his work. He also feels honored for the use of photos on so many books. Lev Dolgachov is an amazing, hands on photographer from Estonia. He has some work I can literally sit and write an entire story around by just looking at them. The girl protraying Cassandra on the cover of Jewel is the third photo of his that I've used on a book. He's also responsible for the signiture photo on my website for the past few years. My handsome Native American was photographed and offered up by Juan Monino who takes some amazing portraits and stills.

Love, Stalker of the Heart

As with my stories, my poetry is mood oriented. I love poems to reflect emotion and tell a story in hopes those who read it feel it and relate.

In my line of work, I have the opportunity to observe, meet and get to know a lot of different people. For the first six years upon our return to our small town, I had a drive-thru affair with a local repairman. I know that sounds bad, but it was harmless flirtation.

At first, I was leery of some questions he started asking. So, one day, I marched into the competition where my sister worked as the assistant manager, and plopped down in a chair, asking her for the low down on him.

I learned he’d been married and she ran off with another man. While this young man was a catch for any woman, I’d met the man she’d run off with and while not quite as handsome, his eyes were irresistible and combined with his sexy smile, he was pure bait and trap.

So, anyway, one day, I found myself behind my drive-thru hunk on my way across town to the grocery store. His assistant turned around and waved at me. This was a common occurrence. You can’t go out without running into someone at least once while you’re doing errands. The town is two miles from the north end to the south end.

We sat at the red stop light and he simply watched me in his side mirror. Our earlier conversation rolled around in mind and this poem started forming in my mind as I thought about how acquaintances can become friends before they know it. By the time I’d finished shopping, the poem was finished as well.

FRIENDS WE CAN BE

Smiles, waves, the unconscious stares
Occasional verbal exchanges
Chance meeting as we go to and fro
Friends we can be

Worry over your health
Aching to ease your fatigue
Concerned by your absence
Friends we can be

Laughter, tears, and silence
Sharing doubts, hurts, dreams
A lifetime bond
Friends we can be

Music, sports, quiet times
Moods, foods, drinks
Cats, plants, the outdoors
Friends we can be

Fear, attraction, desire, honor
Respect, trust, truth, no promises
Treasures we could be
Friends we can be

Over, I’d say, a couple years time, I put together several poems without considering they were of one theme. My oldest son had experienced his first heartache over a girl; some of my kids at work were having boy/girl issues. And I was using Journey as my relaxation music when I needed to sleep before an evening shift. There is just something about Steve Perry’s voice that spurred my muse on.

CONFUSION AMIDST

Why does it happen
I think of you often
Wherever I go there you are
I sleep and you're in my dreams

I don't understand why
Or what it's supposed to mean
Something has to give
Can't you help me make sense

My heart aches, it doesn't know
If it's supposed to turn away
Or, try to take what I can't have
What you don't want to give

I don't want to hurt you
Some how, a way must be found
To find a way we both can survive
Our souls were meant to be together

Sorting out right and wrong
Could cost us the magic
That could keep us suspended
Searching for what's right here

Over all, I wrote something like sixty poems. I pulled forty-three that seemed to have the same theme going. A longing for the love lost or not returned. So, I put them together in a collection and titled it LOVE, Stalker of the Heart. And again, I used one Lev Dolgachov’s photos for the cover. I found this young lady gave the perfect look and feel for the poems within. It’s available via Amazon.

I have other poems I might put out one day. Some are from a project I had to do in school way back when while others are more family oriented such as the one I posted on the Happily Ever After Blog for Father’s Day.

Flash From the Past

Remember this song from the 70's? It's always been one of my favorites and I thought this the appropriate time to post it.

I read a different group, Paper Lace, made it popular in the UK.

Billy Don't Be A Hero

( Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods )

The marchin' band came down along Main Street

The soldier blues fell in behind

I looked across and there I saw Billy

Waiting to go and join the line

And with her head upon his shoulder

His young and lovely fiancee

From where I stood I saw she was cryin'

And through her tears I heard her say

Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life

Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife

And as he started to go she said, Billy, keep your head low

Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me

The soldier blues were trapped on a hillside

The battle raging all around

The sergeant cried, We've got to hang on, boys!

We've got to hold this piece of ground

I need a volunteer to ride up

And bring us back some extra men

And Billy's hand was up in a moment

Forgettin' all the words she said

She said

Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life

Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife

And as he started to go she said, Billy, keep your head low

Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me

I heard his fiancee got a letter

That told how Billy died that day

The letter said that he was a hero

She should be proud he died that way

I heard she threw that letter away ...
